Sales Calls - February 21, 2008

Poorly trained salesmen keep bothering me. I received notification that a Sales Training company had launched a new website. The mainly deal with corporate clients but it got me thinking whether better trained salesmen would be a good or a bad thing.

Sales training is an essential part of bring sales teams up to scratch, but if everyone was well trained would it be impossible for us to say no. I’m not easily swayed by salesmen, well at least I think and hope I’m not. But if people are easily swayed would a better sales team influence them more. Even cold callers could become good and just stop bothering me with pointless phone calls. Would a better training scheme help those people read the situation better or would it just make it harder to get rid of them. I have two tips for getting rid:

1. Put the phone down – this is a great way to end a phone all quickly. It may seem rude, especially to us well mannered brits but they have bothered you, interrupted your TV or even your tea!
2. If the workplace you can say it’s not your responsibility and you are not authorized to give out the other persons number or just simply say now is not a good time.

My Annoying Day -

Today I was bothered by no less than 4 telephone calls from sales people.

I’m less than happy, people wanting to know if my fridge is running or if I am interested in saving on phone bills.

When I’m ready to shop I’ll come to you.

Just leave me alone!!!

My Printer Emergency - February 20, 2008

I recently had a printer emergency. I had something that I needed to print urgently, but my printer decided that it didn’t want to tell me that my black ink cartridge had run out or broke. I’m not quite sure why it didn’t tell me but the reason I’m telling you this is because help was at hand.

The aptly named 999Inks provides emergency ink cartridges that come next day. So thanks to them I was able to print the documents off I needed to print and the emergency was over. The site was very easy to use and surprisingly the cartridges were cheaper than what I usually buy. I was looking about not just for next day delivery but an emergency delivery service. It turned out a guy down the corridor had a printer that he would have lent me, so it turns out I didn’t need to panic after all.

Needless to say I was grateful to 999Inks which saved me money on my normal ink cartridges and allowed me to print off the documents I needed for my important meeting. The meeting went very well. It should have been much more stress free but thanks to 999inks it went as smooth as it could have.

I’m Going Home - February 19, 2008

I’m going home for a few days.

I’m looking forward to a Sunday Lunch, maybe some fish & chips and some real beer.

I’m also going to the football this weekend in what should be an exciting game.

I’ll still be blogging, so keep reading!

Motgage Hike -

January saw a large increase in mortgage lending. Despite the credit crunch Mortgages were up 11%
This could just be the fact that December is typically a slow month for mortgages and I know from my search experience, January is always a very busy month. I don’t have a client that doesn’t get busy over the January period.
The housing market is currently in turmoil with the credit crunch and a big rise in utility bills such as gas or electric. Moving costs are high and for first time buyers its very difficult to save up the deposits required to secure a mortgage on a acceptable rate.
The 11% increase from December is still lower than most months throughout 2007 and December was one of the lowest months for lending over the past two years.
My opinion on the housing market is that it’s too tough to get into. The UK has it very bad with it almost impossible for average first time buyer able to muster up enough deposit and even once they get a house people only seem to be able to just be able to live in a house with no real life style improvements. A lot of my friends have truggled to get onto the property ladder.

SES London Again - February 18, 2008

Today has been tireless. I have attended more seminars than I care to remember and walk endlessly around the centre.

Tomorrow I’m taking it easy, then I’ve a few days off and I’m coming back. I will miss the UK, I’m going to take a trip home before I go.

Upto Yorkshire where today it never got above freezing.

US Real Estate -

Time for another website review…

I came across DROdio.com whilst looking for Real Estate in the Virginia, Maryland and Washington area. A friend of mine is think of moving and a site like this one seemed like a good place to start. I quite like the YouTube video tutorials they offer they are also very quick to respond. They quote a time of within 15 minutes on their website, I would be keen to test this out. 15 minutes is a very quick time for a response and its quite refreshing to see a website quote a response time on their website. Not many do and you are sometimes left in the dark about how long it takes for someone from the company to get back in touch.

The range of real estate that is on offer seems pretty comprehensive and they are enough for people to be able to look at for a good few hours. This site seems like a good starting point for anybody looking for real estate in that area. I would recommend that you look across other websites before making your big decision, but as a place to begin I strongly recommend this website.

Let me know how your search goes..

SES London - February 17, 2008

Online Backup -

I’m looking around for an online backup system for our small business client and I came across Ibackup and thought I would share it with you. I’m thinking of recommending it to my client as it pretty much fits his needs. I have done a bit of shopping around for an Online Backup but came up with lots and lots of services. So make sure you look around and pick one that best suits you, your family or your business.

IBackup boasts a lot of awards including one from PC world and another award from PC magazine. The backup service also does your email such as outlook or thunderbird etc, which is very useful as email is always one of the things I struggle with when backing up. It also backs up SQL, Oracle and other mainstream databases.

The service also allows you to manage your backups from anywhere with an internet connection via an internet browser. My personal one is firefox which is still a lot of problems for second rate web developers who cant seem to build across multiple browsers. I find this very annoying and there are still alot of sites that only run on internet explorer despite the market share for firefox being almost 15%!
