House Prices Rise - December 10, 2007

After the recent cut in interest rates house prices have gone on the rise.

Even thought the interest rates were cut by only 0.25% house prices have responded by rising. This rise will be down to the lenders being able to offer more mortgages to more people.

As I am house hunting this is bad news. House prices are already over inflated and with interest rates high it makes buying a house a bigger problem than normal. I’m unclear on how most people can afford a decent house on moderate salaries without cutting lifestyles to a complete minimum.

I’m hoping to wait on house buying until the market crashes or repossessions become common place that its easy to pick one up cheaper than normal rates.

The £35,000 Cocktail - December 9, 2007

A London nightclub (Movida) has released a cocktail costing a whopping £35,000!!

Called Flawless the cocktail will be served in the nightclub which is located in the west end of London, which is a popular hangout for footballers and celebrities.

The cocktail is made up of:

  • Louis XII cognac
  • Cristal Rose champagne
  • Angostura bitter
  • Brown Sugar

Its topped with flakes of 24-carat edible gold leaf.

The price tag come from the 11-carat white diamond ring which is placed into the glass.

If you can afford £35,000 on a single drink you need your head checking, even if your bill gates that is still expensive! Give the money to charity!

My Broadband Speed - December 7, 2007

I was watching the Gadget Show recently, which for you Americans is a UK show on surprisingly…..gadgets. I was watching that and they are currently doing tests on what braodband speeds we are getting.

Here we are offered upto 8 Mbps, sometimes more. I get a measly 1 Mbps!!!

I dont know anybody that gets anywhere near 8 Mbps. I just think the broadband companies could be doing more to:

a) Increase our speeds

b) Provide more information on our actual speeds

I realise it is difficult for the companies to get the speeds accurate but I really want faster broadband. I download a lot and it just doesn’t have the speeds I need.

Grand Theft Auto IV -

I watched the GTA 4 tailor today. I must say….. I’m impressed.

It looked very good and I cannot wait. I dont play my console that much but there are just some games that I really get into and GTA is one of them.

I’m really looking forward to the release which is in February.

Can anyone suggest some games I might like?

I’m into RPGs but with decent story lines. I liked Bioshock recently but hated Lost Planet.

Interest Rates Drop??? - December 6, 2007

Its finally happened….

Interest rates have dropped 0.25%

Its not a massive amount but on a £100,000 mortgage it would save you about £50-£75 a month.

For me, its a little bad news. I am looking to buy a house and if the housing market were to collapse I could do one of two things:

a) pick up a reposession

b) buy at a lower price

I know its good for existing homeowners but i’m not one of them.

Internet ASBO - December 5, 2007

A chav that boasted about his crimes on bebo has been handed an asbo.

The teenager, from Norwich was banned from using the internet to publish material that promotes criminal activities or is threatening.

I’m sure the can be more done to stamp out Internet bullying. Any Thoughts?

The story is here

My New Peripherals -

I have hot some new peripherals. The Logitech EX110 is simply great.

For less than £20 you cannot complain. Its wireless and great value.

There are shortcuts galore,  and comes with a 5 year guarantee. If your looking for a new mouse and keyboard then look no further.

Nectar Sold -

The company who runs the Nectar points loyalty scheme has been sold. The total cost was £368 million.

Sir Keith Mills, who founded the company will pocket around £160 million from the sale. Sir Keith also set-up the Air miles brand which also sold for a large sum of money.

I love the nectar points scheme, I mainly collect on petrol from BP and have used it to gain free entry into theme parks, alton towers being one of my favourites.

Abramovich buys into Highland -

Roman Abramovich has purchased a 40% stake in Highland Mining for £200 million. Many russian billionaires have started investing in gold companys.

Another 4 people who are all on russia’s rich list all have stakes in gold mining companies.

Yesterday Highlands shares went up 175p. Maybe I should be looking to invest?

Guinness Book of Records up for Sale - December 3, 2007

As with every Christmas the Guinness book of records is selling well. However, the company that owns the brand has put it up for sale with a £60 million price tag.

I have many of these books, I am never amazed by the weird and wonderful things that people will do to get into the book. I also think that some of the records in the book are just stupid, but its the wierd things that make it sell.

I am trying to get in, there is a group on facebook that is trying to get to 3 million members. Once it does, we can apply for a certificate and get listed. I’m hoping its not false.

I would really love a certificate.
