Credit Investigation - February 6, 2008

I thought I would share some of my recent findings. I’ve been looking into a lot of financial things recently as since I moved to the US I have to readdress almost everything I knew about loans, cards and credit. I found creditloan.com which provides a lot of useful information on different aspects of credit. I’ve not got a bad credit history but I’ve not got a credit history at all over here, so especially with the recent credit crash I need to look into the current laws and regulations over credit. The US differs a lot over here but the site I found seems to provide a lot of the information I need. I suggest you check it out.

Neighbours is Moving - February 5, 2008

I recently found out that Neighbours is moving to Channel 5.

This means I can no longer catch up with what is going on via the BBC iPlayer.

Not sure what I’m going to do! I’ll let you know.

Skateboard Needed -

I’m looking for a Burton skateboard at the moment and came across www.modernskate.com. It’s not for me it’s a present for someone but there are quite a lot of websites out there selling Burton Snowboards and Burton skateboards. This one I found to have a good range of products and especially what I’m looking for with my friend. There seemed to be lots of other boards available plus a good range on the Burton section. The site classes itself as a modern skate / surf shop and it seems to tick all the boxes. Be sure to look around before you buy anything as it could be cheaper somewhere else. I’m going to place the order today I’ll let you know how it goes.

Neighbours - January 25, 2008

This is not about the TV programme. I’m not sure if you guys get Neighbours over here, but to fill you in its an Australian soap thats on BBC 1. I used to watch it religiously and its certainly one of the things I miss.

Well the reason I telling you this is because I met my neighbours, one is a delightful old lady who rather bizarrely detailed to me that she was looking for a walk bath tub or walkin tubs (in a southern accent) as she liked to call it. She asked if I would help her on the internet to find one. I came across a few sites but the one I’ve linked to seems to have been the best so far, but we are still looking.

My New Jacket - January 24, 2008

I decided I was going to go hiking this week and needed some new gear. I was particularly interested getting a north face jacket. I got one when I was back in the UK but its nowhere near as cold that some of the places over here.

I was thinking of taking a flight over to a Alaska so I wanted something good. I found some north face jackets on breckgear.com they offered free deliver and quite a nice range of jackets to choose from. I strongly recommend you give them a look before you choose a new jacket, it’s a nice site to start your search from.

My Health Insurance - December 30, 2007

I have been looking for health insurance recently. I used bupa to get my health insurance quote which came out at a fairly acceptable cost. There were a few comparision sites out there but they didn’t really compare the market and some of the forms seemed very complicated.

The price seemed very reasonable and the service and terms & conditions also seemed acceptable. The Private medical insurance from BUPA seems to be the best available price for me.

The website is also very easy to use and I am quite enjoying the TV adverts BUPA are currently showing. They are simple shapes made out to be people requiring health insurance, medical insurance etc.

My Online Backup - December 20, 2007

iDrive offers upto 2GB of free encrypted online storage or you can get unlimited online storage for $4.95/month. iDrive claims to offer a better speed and performance that other leading online storage providers and I would have to agree. The service quickly met my maximum upload speed and my maximum download speed was also matched very quickly.

The Online Backup from iDrive is encrypted so you have peace of mind when backing up client or personal information that needs to remain secure. Recent enhancements include near real time backup of frequently changing data or CDP (Continuous Data Protection) and the ability to manage multiple accounts from single admin account. iDrive also provides browser access to backed up data with fast search options.

I quite like the online backup service as I very rarely use my pc without it being connected to the net. As I work in th online industry most of the things I use are online based. However the important word and excel documents we have to backup every now and again are easily backed up and I can access them from anywhere which is great! I often backup, but to a local directory connected to our works network. This makes it more secure, however, when I need something Iam usually away from the office.

My New Disclosure Policy - December 17, 2007

I have added a new disclosure policy to the site.

This is to let everyone know that some of my posts are influenced and backed by commercial funds. Although I am honest in them you should always research around the subject and what I write is only my opinion… not fact

1 in 4 Wesites Fail - November 29, 2007

The FSA (Financial Services Authority) today announced a review into 77 companies websites produced some astonishing results.

25% of the websites didn’t provide clear and unbiased information. The FSA also stated the websites were difficult to use.

“For many people the internet is the channel of choice for shopping around for financial products,” said Dan Waters, director of retail policy and themes at the FSA.

“It is so important that firms’ websites are fair, clear and not misleading,” he added

The FSA will review the websites again in March and said if the websites were to remain substandard they will take action.

I recently read that companies who update and redesign their websites regularly see increases in sales when compared to those that do not update or redesign regularly.

I agree that a redesign does help, however, it has to be done and planned out. I have seen and worked with companies that rush into a website redevelopment and do not plan and think about the uses or how users currently use the website.
