Online Backup - February 17, 2008

I’m looking around for an online backup system for our small business client and I came across Ibackup and thought I would share it with you. I’m thinking of recommending it to my client as it pretty much fits his needs. I have done a bit of shopping around for an Online Backup but came up with lots and lots of services. So make sure you look around and pick one that best suits you, your family or your business.

IBackup boasts a lot of awards including one from PC world and another award from PC magazine. The backup service also does your email such as outlook or thunderbird etc, which is very useful as email is always one of the things I struggle with when backing up. It also backs up SQL, Oracle and other mainstream databases.

The service also allows you to manage your backups from anywhere with an internet connection via an internet browser. My personal one is firefox which is still a lot of problems for second rate web developers who cant seem to build across multiple browsers. I find this very annoying and there are still alot of sites that only run on internet explorer despite the market share for firefox being almost 15%!

My Online Backup - December 20, 2007

iDrive offers upto 2GB of free encrypted online storage or you can get unlimited online storage for $4.95/month. iDrive claims to offer a better speed and performance that other leading online storage providers and I would have to agree. The service quickly met my maximum upload speed and my maximum download speed was also matched very quickly.

The Online Backup from iDrive is encrypted so you have peace of mind when backing up client or personal information that needs to remain secure. Recent enhancements include near real time backup of frequently changing data or CDP (Continuous Data Protection) and the ability to manage multiple accounts from single admin account. iDrive also provides browser access to backed up data with fast search options.

I quite like the online backup service as I very rarely use my pc without it being connected to the net. As I work in th online industry most of the things I use are online based. However the important word and excel documents we have to backup every now and again are easily backed up and I can access them from anywhere which is great! I often backup, but to a local directory connected to our works network. This makes it more secure, however, when I need something Iam usually away from the office.
