Social Workers - March 8, 2008

Someone was asking me the other day about becoming a social working and what it involves. I haven’t a clue. But I dig a bit of digging and it’s actually quite a complex process. There are multiple exams to be taken and the overall process is a lot more complicated than I first thought. For aid with the social work exam you can buy guides to help you pass. These seemed like a good idea, as with any exam it can be difficult if you’re new to the subject so I thought it was good that there was help out there for the people to understand the laws and regulations around social work.

New Wordpress Themes - February 22, 2008

I’m currently on the prowl for some new wordpress themes for mine and several other blogs that my company, clients or I own. There are hundreds and hundreds of wordpress themes sites out there and there is a range of free themes and pay themes available on all these sites. So where do you start.

The advantage of create a wordpress theme is that the designer or company receive a backlink. I have never used this method for any of my clients but it is possible to sponsor wordpress themes in order to gain backlinks for your own site. These themes can also gain designers credibility and publicity should the theme be widely used.

The site started at was wordpresstheme.com, the site is aptly named and came up fairly high is search results. I have had a look through but I’m not interested in paying for one so this site was perfect as it offers free templates. I’m still looking through the collection and I will keep you informed of any choices I make for my clients, company or my blogs. You will see firsthand if I decide I want to change the look of the blog.

Let me know of any useful sites you find.

Google’s Just Making Waves - November 13, 2007

The current targeting of certain blogs and websites by Google is simply to create waves. Google are trying to scare some big players into thinking that if you dont nofollow every link on your site then you will be punished.

I feel sorry for the bloggers that have been done as they have most certainly been singled out for treatment. Some websites were clearly there to sell links and do nothing else but clutter up the search results. Others blogs that were adding value but also selling some links on the side have been unlucky to get their PageRank lowered. I think the big G is trying to scare people by targeting some bigger sites and hoping that the little guys will get the message. Bullies!

Google Buys Into Tianya.cn - August 21, 2007

I was quite interested to read how Google has bought some of a Chinese social media site. However, the figures weren’t about revealed how much.

The president of Google China, Kai-Fu Lee said that Google intend to buy one or two China-focused internet businesses over the next 5 to 12 months.

Google’s target, Tianya.cn, offers a variety of services including user blogs, classified advertising, photo hosting, news, sports news and university information. The site is ranked as the 63rd most popular website in China with over 20m users.

Google recently won approval from the China government  to provide internet content to the country.
